Concrete Along the Milwaukee River
Fredonia is a village in northern Ozaukee County, and concrete contractors working here split their time between in-town homes and rural properties nearby. The village had 2,279 residents at the 2020 census. We pour driveways, patios, stamped concrete, sidewalks and steps, and garage, shed and equipment slabs, and we repair concrete that has cracked, sunk or flaked.
From a station stop to a village
Wikipedia says the land was home to a Potawatomi village until at least the 1840s, the Town of Fredonia was created in 1847, and the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railway built Fredonia Station in 1873, with businesses growing up around it. When the village incorporated in 1922 it had just 272 residents. It reached 1,934 in 2000 and 2,160 in 2010, and housing units rose from 734 to 873 over that decade.
That means the village has a small older core near the old station and a larger ring of newer homes. Older lots tend to need walk, step and stoop replacements. Newer homes more often call for patios, wider drives and repairs to settling garage aprons.
A river on the west side
The Milwaukee River forms the village's western boundary. Lots on the low side near the river can stay wetter in spring and after storms. On those properties we look closely at drainage before pouring: where water comes from, where it goes and whether the soil underneath will stay firm. A thicker gravel base and the right slope make a big difference to how a patio or driveway holds up.
Stone under the ground
The village lies in the Southeastern Wisconsin glacial till plains, and Wikipedia notes that Silurian Racine Dolomite limestone is visible at two 19th-century quarries west of the village. Till soils over bedrock can be dense and slow to drain, so we never pour straight on native soil. Every slab gets a compacted gravel base, and every exterior pour uses air-entrained concrete to resist freeze and thaw.
Rural work around Fredonia
Outside the village limits, many customers have longer driveways, outbuildings and equipment. We pour pads for sheds and garages, floors for pole buildings and parking areas for trailers and machinery. We size the slab thickness and joint layout to the heaviest thing that will sit or drive on it.

- Patios: plain and stamped

Fredonia Questions
My lot near the river is soggy in spring. Can I still get a patio?
Yes, with the right preparation. We check drainage, add base where the ground is soft and slope the patio so water moves away from the house and off the slab.
Do you pour floors for pole buildings near Fredonia?
Yes. We size the slab and joints for the vehicles and equipment it will carry and coordinate timing with the building crew.
Do I need to be home during the pour?
Not necessarily. We need access to the work area and a water source. We go over the plan with you beforehand and walk the finished job with you.
