Concrete Work for a Small Village on Highway 28

Cascade is a small village in western Sheboygan County on Wisconsin Highway 28, and the concrete contractors who work here mostly pour the practical things: driveways, garage floors, front walks, steps, patios and pads for sheds and equipment. The village had 722 residents at the 2020 census. We do all of that, plus stamped concrete and repairs for slabs that have cracked, heaved or settled.

A village that tries new things

Wikipedia notes that in June 2010 Cascade built two 100-kilowatt wind turbines and became the first community in Wisconsin to use locally produced wind energy to power its municipal wastewater treatment plant. It is a small place that pays attention to its infrastructure, and homeowners here tend to care about getting work done once and done right.

Slow, steady growth

The village had 666 residents and 269 housing units in 2000, then 709 residents and 291 housing units in 2010. Growth that slow means most houses have been here a while, and much of the concrete around them has too. The most common jobs we see in villages like this are replacing a cracked or heaved driveway, rebuilding front steps that have pulled away from the house and pouring a new floor in an older detached garage.

With older concrete, we start by checking what is still sound. Not every crack means a slab has to go. When the base under it has washed out or the panels are moving, though, a full tear-out and new compacted base is the fix that lasts.

Inland cold

Cascade sits at about 869 feet, well west of Lake Michigan, so winters are cold and the freeze and thaw cycle is hard on any concrete that holds water. Every exterior pour we do uses air-entrained concrete and a compacted gravel base, with control joints cut at the right spacing and a slope that sends water off the slab. After curing, a penetrating sealer helps keep water and de-icers out.

Rural properties around the village

Many of our calls near Cascade come from farm and country properties. We pour long driveways, parking areas, slabs for pole buildings and detached garages, and pads for sheds, trailers and equipment. On these jobs we size thickness and base for the heaviest load the slab will carry.

What we do here

  • Driveways: replacement and new pours
  • Patios: plain and stamped
  • Walks and steps: front walks, stoops and porch steps
  • Garage, shed and equipment slabs: village and rural lots
  • Repairs: cracked or sunken sections

Cascade Questions

Is Cascade inside your service area?

Yes. We work in Cascade and on rural properties around it in western Sheboygan County.

Can a cracked driveway be repaired instead of replaced?

Sometimes. Isolated cracks in a level, solid slab can be sealed or a panel replaced. Panels that are heaving, sinking or broken into pieces usually call for replacement.

Do you pour slabs for pole buildings?

Yes. We size the slab and joints for the equipment and vehicles it will hold and coordinate with the builder.
