Concrete for a Village That Doubled Its Housing
Belgium is a village in northern Ozaukee County along Interstate 43, about two miles west of Lake Michigan, and homeowners here hiring concrete contractors are often dealing with newer homes from the village's growth years. The 2020 census counted 2,421 residents. We pour driveways, patios, stamped concrete, sidewalks and steps, and garage and shed slabs, and we repair concrete that has cracked or settled.
A name that came from a mix-up
Wikipedia says immigrant farmers from Luxembourg began settling the area in the late 1840s, and that in 1857 the settlers' proposed name Luxembourg was swapped with the Belgian settlers' proposed name Belgium because of a clerical error. The Luxembourg American Cultural Society and Center has been in the village since 1977, and an annual Luxembourg Fest has been held since 1987. The village incorporated in 1922.
Fast growth from 2000 to 2010
Belgium's housing count went from 592 units in 2000 to 848 in 2010, an increase of about 43 percent, and then to 865 in 2020. Population rose from 1,678 to 2,245 over that first decade. That means a large share of the village's driveways, garage floors and patios were poured in a short span, and many are now reaching the age where problems start: settled panels at the garage door, cracks in the apron where plows hit, and surface flaking where salt sat through winters.
Because so many homes were built close together in time, neighbors often see the same issues. We look at your slab on its own, though, and tell you honestly whether you need a few panels or a full replacement.
Glacial till and lake weather
The village sits in the Southeastern Wisconsin glacial till plains at about 738 feet. Till soils are often dense and can hold water, so drainage and a solid gravel base under every slab are important. With the lake just to the east, Belgium also gets plenty of damp, cold weather and freeze and thaw cycles. We pour with air-entrained concrete, compact the base, slope surfaces to drain and joint slabs properly.
Commuter driveways
Belgium is one of the northernmost communities in the Milwaukee metro area, and many residents commute along I-43. Two-car and three-car households put real wear on a driveway. Widening a drive, adding a parking pad or replacing a cracked apron are some of our most common jobs here.

Belgium Questions
Why does the panel by my garage keep sinking?
The soil next to a foundation is backfill that often settles over the first years after construction. If the panel was poured on it without enough compaction, it sinks. We remove it, compact a new base and pour a new panel tied to the rest of the drive.
Is Belgium too far for you?
No. Belgium is part of our regular service area in northern Ozaukee County.
Can you match a new driveway section to my old concrete?
We match finish and joint layout. New concrete is lighter at first and blends in more as it weathers.
